My New EDC Radio the UV-3R

First of all I ordered this radio only because of the price, I thought well for $50 I need to check out this radio. My surprise when the radio arrived! 

This thing is just awesome. Let’s begin with the size, tiny is a great way to describe this radio it can easily fit in your back pocket and in fact I carry this little radio everywhere. It has become my favorite radio, my Yaesu VX-7R looks sad and lonely but it’s too big for an EDC radio.

 Signals come in loud and clear and the receiver seems to be really good for a $50 radio.  It is dual band but can only receive one frequency at a time but no problem just set the DW (Dual Watch) and it will check two frequencies and stop when a signal is received. Battery life seems to be fairly good and so far the radio lasts for a couple of days without recharging. It has 99 memories that can store TX frequency, RX frequency, power, and tone. This is a list of all the specs of the radio.  By the way if you decide to order this radio do yourself a favor and order the programing cable it is easier to program that way. Mine came with a charger that connects to a USB cable so it can also be charge using a computer. Well I will write some more later on this great find and include a video so you can se how good a receiver it has.

My Current EDC

Ok so let me show you some pics that I took recently of my EDC (Every Day Carry). Note that I don't take knives to my work (School).

My EDC Maxpedition Wallet, Maxpedition Fatty Pocket Organizer and my Ipad 2.

Most of my EDC is inside this organizer, let's see what's inside. 

Inside is a FAK (First Aid Kit), small notebook, headphones, pens, Cree LED AA Flashlight, rechargeable batteries, my favorite knife a CRKT M-16 and tube container. 

Depending on where I am going I choose between my two CRKT knifes. On top the CRKT Hammond Cruiser and the CRKT M-16. The light is a Cree AA Flashlight and it works great for only $8. The flashlight look similar to more expensive lights and so far has prove reliable during power outages and my Geocaching trips.

Inside the FAK I have just the basic stuff, Band-Aids, Pain reliever pills and water purification tablets.

When I want to go really small I just take my Spyderco Lady Bug and my Fenix E01.

EDC Apps for the Ipad 2

To say that the Ipad 2 has replace my EDC netbook is an understatement. Now the only time I use the PC is when I have to print a document but everything else I do on the Ipad. I used to carry my Netbook everywhere but not anymore. The Ipad has an incredible battery life, mine last for over ten hours even while playing movies or games. Since this is a 3G model I have no problem connecting to the net from any place. As an EDC device is awesome is always on my Maxpedition Falcon II or in my LA Police Gear bag and since weight is not a problem you tend to forget is there.

This is a list of some of the emergency apps I have on the Ipad:

RadarScope; great weather app probably the best radar app in the store, pretty expensive but worth every penny.

Disaster Alert; I you want to stay on top of everything happening around the world in terms of emergencies this is the app.

QuakeWarn HD; it displays info on every major earthquake around the world and even sends you push notifications when the quake is near your location.

POM Alert; this little app will send you notifications when a emergency occurs near your actual location.
